Rhydyfelin is a common place-name in Wales, the most notable being a village near Pontypridd. Rhydyfelin is located near the Rhondda Valley which is known for its coal mining. It is also known as Rhydfelen, which means 'Yellow ford' in the Welsh language, while Rhydyfelin means 'Mill ford'.

Wales' second Welsh language comprehensive school was opened in the village of Rhydyfelin in 1962; it was called Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen (note the slight spelling difference). This school moved to a new location in Church Village in 2006.

Rhydyfelin is the home town of the band Lostprophets.
